Arabic version: أنيكا ويلز تنضم إلى قائمة نجوم تايم الصاعدين
According to The Guardian, federal communications minister Anika Wells has been named among Time magazine’s “world’s most influential rising stars” in its annual Time 100 list. Time describes the group as leaders who are shaping the future.
Wells has overseen Australia’s under-16s social media ban and is working on a digital duty of care framework. Her inclusion was accompanied by a testimonial from former Labor prime minister Julia Gillard, who described Wells as a significant voice in a global movement to reshape the relationship between technology and children’s wellbeing.
Gillard said Wells had remained steadfast despite opposition from some of the world’s largest technology companies. She said future generations would look back on Wells’s changes as “courageous and trail-blazing”.
Australian musician Troye Sivan was also included on the influential rising stars list. Kylie Minogue wrote his testimonial, calling him “a perfect 2020s pop star” and saying he makes pop music “to believe in”. Other people listed included musicians Sombr and PinkPantheress, soccer player Folarin Balogun, US senator Andy Kim, Dutch prime minister Rob Jetten and Donald Trump political adviser James Blair.
