Historian Anna Keay has been confirmed as the official biographer of Queen Elizabeth II, a role she describes as a “profound honour.” Keay, known for her work on historical books related to the royal family, will conduct interviews with royal family members and the late queen’s friends and servants for the biography.

According to The Guardian, Keay will also have access to the monarch’s personal and official papers held in the royal archives. The 51-year-old historian has a background that includes seven years as an assistant curator at Historic Royal Palaces, overseeing sites such as Hampton Court and the Tower of London.

Keay has authored several significant works, including “The Last Royal Rebel: The Life and Death of James, Duke of Monmouth” and “The Restless Republic: Britain Without a Crown.” Reports indicate that King Charles wanted a female author for this important task, leading to discussions with Keay for the role.

Expressing her gratitude, Keay stated, “I am deeply grateful to his majesty the king for entrusting me with this responsibility and for granting me access to her papers, and will do all I can to do justice to her life and work.”
