According to The Guardian, Dustfall is a six-part Australian crime drama led by Anna Torv as Detective Antigone “Tig” Pollard, a detective who returns to the Queensland town of North Gap and confronts a troubling new investigation.
Tig is living in her recently deceased grandmother’s house, while her mother Olivia, played by Juliet Stevenson, wants the property sold. The detective is emotionally exhausted after a high-profile rape trial when an 18-year-old girl, Edie, is found naked in a local cane field with little memory of the preceding night.
The series adapts Vikki Petraitis’s novel The Unbelieved. Director Emma Freeman works with writers Beatrix Christian, Dianne Taylor, Belinda Chayko and Stuart Page on a story that examines institutional and societal misogyny, victim-blaming and complicity alongside its detective plot.
Zoe Phillips plays Edie, while Bert LaBonté appears as Tig’s police partner Remi and Alice Ansara plays a nurse at the local hospital. The review said the programme uses its widening suspect pool and whodunit structure to explore attitudes towards women, while maintaining momentum and emotional weight.
Dustfall airs at 8.20pm on Sundays on ABC TV, with all episodes available on ABC iview. It is scheduled to air in the UK on the BBC at a later date.
