According to Cnbc, some Anthropic investors now expect the artificial intelligence company to list below a $1.5 trillion valuation, following a selloff in technology stocks. One investor described that valuation as a “stretch,” while another said a $1 trillion to $1.25 trillion target could be more likely depending on market conditions.

The outlook marks a shift from previous expectations that Anthropic could seek a $2 trillion valuation in its initial public offering. The company was reportedly pursuing that level last month, and it had a private valuation of $965 billion as of May. Anthropic declined to comment.

Anthropic is set to list on the Nasdaq under the ticker ANT and is preparing for an expected market debut in a matter of weeks. The company is expected to begin its roadshow next week.

Concerns over large-scale spending by AI companies have contributed to weaker market sentiment. The Nasdaq fell more than 5% on Thursday, its steepest decline in 19 months. The selloff followed a difficult October for the index, when it posted its worst month since March 2025, led by declines in chipmakers and neoclouds.

Gil Luria, an analyst at D.A. Davidson, said investors will expect the IPO to be priced at least at the low end of earlier expectations. He said a well-priced offering would provide the strongest setup for Anthropic’s debut.
