Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has urged his players and fans to “stay present and live the moment” as they embark on a crucial month that could see the club secure both the Premier League and Champions League titles. The Gunners currently lead the Premier League by five points over Manchester City, who have a game in hand, and need to win their remaining three fixtures to claim their first league title in 22 years. According to BBC News, Arsenal also reached their first Champions League final in 20 years after defeating Atletico Madrid 2-1 on aggregate and will face Paris St-Germain on May 30 in Budapest.
Arteta emphasized the importance of maintaining focus, stating, “We are closer and closer and everything that we do now is going to matter to win it or not.” The Gunners will play against relegation-threatened West Ham this Sunday, followed by matches against Burnley on May 18 and Crystal Palace on the final day of the season, May 24.
The mood is buoyant at Arsenal following their semi-final victory, but Arteta has cautioned that their “energy and detail” must remain centered on securing three points against West Ham. The Hammers currently sit in 18th place, just one point adrift of safety, making this match critical for their survival.
West Ham’s head coach Nuno Espirito Santo acknowledged the pressure his team faces but expressed confidence in their home advantage. “There is no hiding – being at home is good for us,” he stated. The Hammers have three matches left, including their showdown with Arsenal, which they must navigate to escape relegation.
Meanwhile, Manchester City, who are also in the title race, will play Brentford at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday. Despite an impressive unbeaten run, a recent 3-3 draw against Everton has complicated their pursuit of a seventh league title under manager Pep Guardiola. City will aim to capitalize on their home games as they seek to close the gap on Arsenal in the final weeks of the season.
