The Australia-Saudi trade relationship has reached new heights, marked by an exciting event that took place this October in Riyadh. Under the patronage of His Excellency Bandar Alkhorayef, the inaugural Aussie Expo brought Australian talent and expertise to the heart of Saudi Arabia for the first time, strengthening not only business but also government ties between the two nations. The exhibition showcased the best of Australian innovation, with over 75 Australians participating and attracting more than 1,000 attendees over the course of two days.
This milestone follows two years of dedicated collaboration between Australian and Saudi stakeholders, led by Sam Jamsheedi, President and Chairman of the Australian Saudi Business Forum. It all began with a handshake—a powerful symbol of commitment—between Sam Jamsheedi and key Saudi leaders: His Excellency Bandar Alkhorayef, His Excellency Khalid Almudaifer, and His Excellency Suliman Almazroua. Since that moment, the Forum has worked tirelessly to bring more than 300 Australian companies to Saudi Arabia, offering them the opportunity to explore and contribute to the ambitious Vision 2030.
The Aussie Expo served as a platform for fostering direct connections between Australian companies and Saudi partners, providing attendees with an insight into Australian capabilities in sectors such as agriculture, technology, education, and more. The event not only highlighted the depth of expertise that Australia has to offer but also the commitment of both nations to diversify and grow their economic partnership.
This exhibition would not have been possible without the support of key figures in both countries. Special gratitude goes to the Australian Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, His Excellency Mark Donovan, along with Austrade’s Trade and Investment Commissioner Todd Miller and his dedicated team—Abd Hakmi, Faisal A., Mohamed Ismail, and Mohsen El-Bahaie. The collaboration extended beyond federal bodies, involving the Western Australian government as well, with Nashid Chowdhury from Invest and Trade Western Australia playing a significant role, and Aziz Saba leading initiatives to strengthen relationships across the Gulf region.
In his reflections, Sam Jamsheedi emphasised that this is just the beginning of a much larger journey. “The Aussie Expo marks the dawn of a new era in Australia-Saudi trade. This event symbolises our mutual commitment to enhancing our economic ties as we journey towards Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030,” he said. The strategic partnership with the National Industrial Development and Logistics Program (NIDLP), led by His Excellency Suliman AlMazroa, has been a cornerstone in laying the foundation for this new chapter of collaboration.
The involvement of the Federation of Saudi Chambers, stakeholders, sponsors, and key partners, such as the Saudi Consul General to Australia, His Excellency Mishare Ben Naheet, and the Saudi Commercial Attaché to Australia & New Zealand, His Excellency Atif AlOthri, underlines the broad support this event received from both governments and the private sector.
The Aussie Expo has certainly set a strong precedent for future cooperation, bringing a wealth of opportunities for Australian businesses to engage with the Saudi market. With Vision 2030 aiming to diversify the Kingdom’s economy beyond oil, there has never been a better time for Australian companies to bring their expertise, and this exhibition was a testament to the exciting possibilities ahead.
