Arabic version: تبدأ جلسة الاستماع لتايلر روبنسون، المتهم بقتل تشارلي كيرك
The family of US conservative activist Charlie Kirk came face-to-face with his alleged killer, Tyler Robinson, during a court hearing on Monday. The hearing, which is set to continue all week, will include witness testimony and other evidence to determine whether Robinson, 23, will stand trial for Kirk’s murder. According to BBC News, Kirk was fatally shot on 10 September 2025 while speaking at Utah Valley University, kicking off an intense manhunt that led to Robinson’s arrest days later.
Kirk’s family, including his widow Erika and parents Robert and Kathryn, released a statement to local media in advance of Monday’s proceedings. They thanked the public for their support while requesting privacy as they navigate the judicial process. Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty against Robinson, who has entered a plea but has not publicly detailed his defense strategy.
During the hearing, new evidence was presented, including surveillance footage that law enforcement said showed Robinson on campus four times the day of the shooting. Witnesses testified about the chaos that ensued after Kirk was shot, with one law enforcement officer reporting a rifle shot and describing a scene of panic. He also mentioned discovering suspicious evidence leading him to believe it might not be the right suspect.
Robinson’s defense team has questioned the validity of the evidence presented and has sought to challenge the circumstances surrounding his identification as a suspect. The hearing will examine witness testimonies and evidence to ascertain whether there is sufficient basis to proceed with a trial against Robinson.
