After Philadelphia Eagles’ Offensive Tackle, Jordan Mailata became the first Aussie to start and play in the SuperBowl Seattle Seahawks Aussie punter Michael Dickson is on track to chase glory on the NFL’s biggest stage
It comes after the Seattle Seahawks won a tight game 31-27 against the LA Rams on Monday to win the NFC Championship. The Seahawks will now face the New England Patriots in SuperBowl LX at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, who defeated the Denver Broncos 10-7 to take home the AFC Championship.
Before Dickson was picked by the Seahawks, he played Australian Rules Football for UNSW and the Sydney Swans reserves side. He then decided to head south to Melbourne for a trial with the Pro Kick Australia academy.
Dickson was then chosen by the University of Texas to be a punter for the Texas Longhorns college football team. All of the experience helped the 30-year-old when he kicked a 55-yard punt, which was too powerful for Rams player Xavier Smith to catch, forcing him to stumble. He punted five times to achieve a total of 226 yards.
He is the highest-paid punter in the NFL after agreeing to a four-year $16.5 million contract extension with Seattle last year.
Now both teams will prepare for SuperBowl LX, which kicks off 10.30 am on February 9 with Puerto Rican rapper Bad Bunny performing at the halftime show.
