According to BBC News, Australia dominated the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games medal table after 10 days of action across 10 sports. A total of 215 gold medals were awarded, with Australia winning 70 and collecting 171 medals overall.
Australia’s 70 gold medals were 16 more than the combined gold total of England, hosts Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. England finished second with 29 golds, ahead of Canada and India. Scotland were fifth with 13 golds, while Wales ranked ninth with nine, including four won by cyclist Emma Finucane. Northern Ireland were 12th with three golds.
Swimming was central to Australia’s success. The team won 37 gold medals and 76 medals in total in the pool, while Meg Harris won six individual golds. Australia also topped the medal tables in athletics, track cycling and 3×3 basketball. Swimmer Sam Short, who won four swimming golds, said the Commonwealth Games and Olympics were major targets for Australia.
Elsewhere, South Africa’s Chad le Clos became the most successful athlete in Commonwealth Games history after earning his 21st medal, a bronze in the men’s 4x100m medley relay. Louise Hoskins, aged 76 years and 173 days, became the oldest gold medallist by winning the Para-bowls women’s pairs with Serena Bonnell. Her gold was among a record 141 Para-sport medals awarded in Glasgow. In total, 45 of 74 nations or territories won medals.
