According to ABC News, Australia qualified fastest for the mixed 4x100m freestyle relay final on day two of the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. The final is scheduled for 6:11am tomorrow, after Australia finished ahead of England, New Zealand, Wales and Scotland in qualifying.
Australia won its heat in 3:24.83. Kai Taylor, Harrison Turner, Hannah Casey and Alex Perkins made up the team, with Casey moving Australia in front before Perkins extended the lead. New Zealand won the other heat in 3:28.19, ahead of Scotland in 3:31.79.
In the men’s 400m freestyle heats, Sam Short qualified fastest for the final after winning his heat in 3:46.23. Ben Goedemans was second-fastest overall after winning a heat in 3:46.47, ahead of Northern Ireland’s Daniel Wiffen and Australia’s Elijah Winnington. The final is due at 4:07am AEST tomorrow.
Australia’s Diamonds opened their netball campaign with a 99-38 victory over Tonga. The result gave the Australian side its first win of the 2026 Commonwealth Games, with Kiera Austin and Sophie Garbin combining in attack. The Diamonds play England on day three, in what will be their 50th Commonwealth Games match.
Elsewhere in the pool, Matt Temple qualified fastest for the men’s 100m butterfly semifinals with 51.30 seconds. Ella Ramsay, Sienna Toohey and Tara Kinder progressed to the women’s 100m breaststroke semifinals, while Jack Ireland was second to England’s William Ellard in the men’s 200m freestyle S14 ranking race.
