The Australian Arab Chamber of Commerce and Industry (AACCI) and the ASEAN Business Alliance have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), establishing a new framework for cooperation aimed at strengthening commercial ties between Australia’s Arab and ASEAN business communities.
The agreement reflects a shared commitment to expanding trade, investment and business engagement across Australia, the Arab world and Southeast Asia.
Under the MOU, AACCI and the ASEAN Business Alliance will work collaboratively to facilitate business introductions, promote investment opportunities, support trade missions and delegations, exchange commercial information and create opportunities for members to access new markets.
AACCI Chairman Mohamed Hage OAMsaid the agreement represented an important step in building stronger commercial bridges between two significant international markets.
“This Memorandum of Understanding brings together two dynamic business communities with enormous potential for greater cooperation,” Mr Hage said.
“Australia is uniquely positioned as a trusted partner and meeting point between the Arab world and the economies of ASEAN. By bringing our networks together, we can create practical opportunities for Australian, Arab and Southeast Asian businesses to trade, invest and collaborate.”

Terrence Cheong, Chairperson of the ASEAN Business Alliance, said the MOU would provide a valuable platform for closer cooperation between the ASEAN and Arab business communities.

The MOU provides for cooperation across a number of areas, including facilitating trade and investment opportunities, supporting business-to-business introductions and strategic partnerships, collaborating on trade missions and delegations, hosting business forums and networking events, exchanging market intelligence, and supporting businesses seeking to enter Arab, Australian and ASEAN markets.
Mr Hage said the partnership reflected AACCI’s broader commitment to expanding international commercial relationships and strengthening Australia’s engagement with key global markets.
“This partnership creates an important bridge connecting ASEAN, Australia and the Arab world,” Mr Hage said.
“By working together, we can give businesses greater access to relationships, market knowledge and commercial opportunities across three highly important regions.”
The two organisations will now work together to identify an initial program of joint initiatives and business engagement activities under the MOU.
