Arabic version: مركز AusTriathlon يستهدف مسار بريسبان 2032
According to ABC News, AusTriathlon last week formally opened a new high performance hub at the Miami Aquatic Centre on the Gold Coast. The facility will serve the sport’s leading athletes and coaches while developing emerging competitors through the Ascent Academy, creating a centralised base in the lead-up to the 2032 Olympics.
The proposed location for triathlon at the Brisbane Games is the Gold Coast. Nineteen-year-old Aspen Anderson said having a home base for a home Olympics was special and described the hub as an important change after athletes had previously moved between venues. She said training alongside others could help athletes through difficult days and allow them to support one another.
Reigning world champion Matt Hauser said the hub was a major step forward. He said he could not train alone across triathlon’s three disciplines every day, and that racing exposure in training and athletes pushing each other could lift performance. Hauser won the world title in Wollongong last year, becoming the first Australian world champion since Emma Moffatt in 2010.
Anderson, a double gold medallist at the 2023 Youth Commonwealth Games in Trinidad and Tobago, has made rapid progress this season. She led Australia’s mixed team relay to fourth place in Quiberon, France, in June, then finished 38th in her individual World Triathlon Championship Series debut in Hamburg. Anderson is due to race in Weihai, China, at the end of the month and has been named in Australia’s under-23 squad for the 2026 World Triathlon Championship Finals in Pontevedra, Spain.
