According to BBC News, Everton’s proposed signing of Monaco striker Folarin Balogun collapsed after the player changed his mind following a medical at the club’s Finch Farm training base.

Medical issues prompted Everton and Monaco to renegotiate an initial £40m agreement for the 25-year-old United States international. Balogun and both clubs signed a deal sheet before the transfer window closed at 23:00 BST, but the striker then walked away from the move.

Everton had turned to Balogun as a late target after Beto completed a permanent transfer to Fiorentina. The club also explored moves for Manchester United’s Joshua Zirkzee and Aston Villa’s Tammy Abraham, but could not persuade either forward to join.

On transfer deadline day, Everton signed Jack Grealish from Manchester City on a season-long loan. The 30-year-old made 20 appearances during a 2025-26 loan spell at Everton before a season-ending foot injury in January, scoring twice and providing six assists.

Everton also completed the signing of former Arsenal player Ainsley Maitland-Niles from Lyon. Meanwhile, Scotland right-back Nathan Patterson joined Torino permanently after making 68 appearances in all competitions for Everton.
