In the bustling heart of Bangkok, Lumphini Park has transformed into a vibrant hub for young people eager to engage in outdoor aerobics. Once predominantly attended by older participants, these evening sessions have become a sensation among Generation Z, driven by catchy playlists featuring K-pop and US hip-hop.

According to The Guardian, the aerobics classes now draw hundreds of attendees, prompting organizers to enhance the experience with additional projector screens and speakers. Participants, including students and young professionals, are flocking to join the energetic routines, which have gained popularity on social media platforms like TikTok and Instagram.

Aether Li, a 22-year-old paralegal, expressed her excitement about the sessions, stating that seeing videos online inspired her to join. “Seeing it on TikTok, it’s really fun – there’s just this energy that makes you want to join in,” she noted, highlighting a desire for social connection among her peers.

The music selection plays a significant role in attracting younger crowds, with diverse playlists that include remixes of luk thung, Thai country music, alongside international hits. Rattana Songpanich, a 57-year-old regular participant, noted the evolution of the sessions, emphasizing the improved atmosphere and increased attendance.

The aerobics sessions have also fostered intergenerational connections, with participants ranging from young students to retirees. As the trend continues to grow, organizers hope it will encourage a lasting appreciation for fitness among the youth, even if the current viral interest eventually fades.
