According to The Guardian, Bangladesh moved to 219-2 in their first innings on day two of the first men’s Test against Australia at Marrara Cricket Ground in Darwin. Tanzid Hasan was unbeaten on 94 and captain Najmul Hossain Shanto was 45 not out as the visitors built a lead after beginning the day in reply to Australia’s first-innings total.

Bangladesh reached lunch at 181-2, trailing by 17 runs, after a session in which Australia used six bowlers but created few openings. Tanzid, who made his maiden Test half-century during the innings, was 74 not out at the interval, while Shanto was unbeaten on 28.

The tourists moved ahead in the 55th over when Tanzid cut Mitchell Starc for runs. He later reached the highest score by a Bangladesh batter in Australia, as stated in the live report, and shared a 50-run partnership with Shanto from 74 balls.

Australia’s bowlers found limited assistance from the surface, with the report describing tennis-ball bounce and a lack of pace. Josh Hazlewood dismissed Mominul Haque for 49, caught by Alex Carey, to leave Bangladesh 138-2. Earlier, Tanzid survived a chance when Steve Smith dropped him at slip after the ball deflected from Carey.

At 219-2 after 60 overs, Nathan Lyon had begun his first spell of the afternoon. Australia captain Pat Cummins, Starc, Hazlewood, Cameron Green, Beau Webster and Lyon had all been used as Bangladesh sought to extend their advantage in hot and humid conditions.
