It’s one of Sydney’s best and most beloved food festivals and now Bankstown Bites is back to delight foodies and amateur chefs alike, with a tantalising drool-worthy variety of food, as well as fantastic entertainment for all ages.
It’s no secret our City is a melting pot of international cuisine, Bankstown Bites promises to be an “explosion” of unique food and culture. Indulge in fine cuisine from a huge variety of food stalls; Filipino, Indian, Turkish, Asian, Japanese, Mexican, Spanish, Portuguese, Egyptian, Italian and Thai…just to name a few!
Bankstown Bites kicks off 30 July, from 10am-5pm, showcasing the area’s unique food and culture. All the action takes place on Olympic Parade with 24 food stalls, along with activities at Griffith Park. There’ll also be a range of fabulous activities at the Bankstown Arts Centre (between 10-4pm)
Gain new skills in the kitchen and impress your friends with your new signature dish as taught by celebrity chef Adrian Richardson from Good Chef Bad Chef, along with MasterChef “fans and favourites” contestant Alvin Quah.
Alvin will teach you how to cook your own signature dish, and, following his cooking demo, you can join Alvin for a “meet and greet.”
Alvin says he’s excited to be in Bankstown, which he sees as one of the most important places in Australia when it comes to food.
“Bankstown is such an amazing place. It’s incredibly vibrant and, with so many different cultures come different cuisines. If you want to really experience someone’s culture, the easiest way to do it without having to travel to their country, is to eat their food. Bankstown really has it all, “Alvin says.
“The best thing about having some ethnicity is telling people, ‘If you want to taste my food, you need to learn about my story.’ And people from ethnic backgrounds are so rich in stories! Bankstown is such a unique place, everyone is lucky to be surrounded by so many different ethnicities for others to learn about, without having to travel to foreign lands.”
Make sure you take a long lunch in the surrounds of our vibrant City! Once you’ve taste-tested from as many of the food stalls that take your fancy, you can treat yourself to a drink at the Lady Banks Rooftop Bar Cart, before catching some of the roving entertainment. We’ll have the Singing Chefs, free face painting for kids, carnival rides, as well as “kids in the kitchen” activities for the youngsters.
Other activities include the BBQ cooking school, Bankstown Arts Centre Open Day, performances by TAP (Talent Advancement Program) students, 15 Stars, Antoine Duo, food tours of Bankstown, and much more!
Canterbury-Bankstown Mayor Khal Asfour says Bankstown Bites has always been a significant event on the food lovers’ calendar.
“I’m looking forward to welcoming thousands of festival-goers to Bankstown Bites – with the street party atmosphere and fantastic array of cuisines our city is famous for,” Mayor Asfour says.
“We can’t wait to kick things off from 10am on Saturday 30 July, when people will come from across the state to celebrate everything that’s great about Bankstown, and, while you’re there, you’ll take home some great cooking tips from the celebrity chefs to impress friends and family alike. See you there!”
We are proud to host Bankstown Bites in our City, proudly funded by the NSW Government.
