You might have noticed something out of the ordinary when you looked up at the sky in Bankstown this past week; one of Sydney’s largest mobile cranes was helping our City reach new heights.

Paul Keating Park has been a temporary home for the 136 metre-high crane, capable of lifting 400 tonnes, to allow for the next stage of construction of the new Western Sydney University Bankstown City Campus.

The imposing crane, which required three semi trailers to transport it, was commissioned by a construction group and used to dismantle a smaller crane which had been operating at the site.

Canterbury-Bankstown Mayor Khal Asfour said the crane cut an awesome site in the City’s skyline and helped us reach new heights.

“It was massive and caused a lot of locals to stop and watch it in action,” Mayor Asfour said.

“Once the Western Sydney University campus is complete, we’ll see thousands of students and staff in the town centre, adding millions of dollars to the local economy.

“It’s just one of the exciting changes that are coming to our City.

“With the Sydenham to Bankstown Metro Line, The Appian Way Pedestrian Mall, and more to come, the Bankstown CBD is Sydney’s newest place for opportunity!”
