Bankstown RSL Sub-Branch held a solemn Commemoration of Remembrance Day on Tuesday, 11 November 2025, at the Bankstown War Memorial, Court House Reserve, to honour the brave men and women who served and sacrificed for Australia.

The ceremony commenced was led by President Terry Corcoran, Treasurer I.J. Morrison, and Secretary J.W. Woodley, with a moving Welcome to Country acknowledging Australia’s armed services and their unwavering courage and tenacity.

Among the distinguished guests in attendance was Mayor of the City of Canterbury Bankstown, Clr. Bilal El Hayek, who joined veterans, community members, and local representatives in paying tribute to those who fought for freedom and peace.

Oz Arab Media was proudly represented by Dr. Charbel Tadros, JP, who attended to honour the memory of Australia’s fallen heroes and to recognise the ongoing importance of remembrance in uniting communities.

The keynote address was delivered by Brigadier Dr. John Crozier, a distinguished military surgeon and respected leader in both the medical and defence communities. With decades of service in the Australian Army, Brigadier Dr. Crozier has been instrumental in advancing trauma care and emergency response systems across Australia. His address resonated deeply with attendees, as he reflected on the bravery, resilience, and compassion shown by Australia’s servicemen and women—both on the battlefield and in humanitarian missions. Drawing from his own experience in military medicine, he highlighted the importance of remembrance not only as a tribute to the fallen, but as a continuing commitment to uphold the values for which they served.

The program also included prayers, scripture readings, and hymns led by Major Peter Davey from the Salvation Army, followed by the Laying of Wreaths, the Ode to the Fallen, the Last Post, and a minute of silence observed by all attendees. The ceremony concluded with the Rouse, Benediction, and the national anthems of New Zealand and Australia.

In his closing remarks, President Terry Corcoran expressed gratitude to all who attended, stating:

“Out of the ravages of war comes the need to proceed with peace, ever mindful of the sacrifices paid by those before and those who are prepared to come forward to ensure our nation’s security.”

The Remembrance Day service served as a heartfelt reminder of the enduring legacy of Australia’s servicemen and women — a day to reflect, honour, and never forget.

Lest We Forget.
