Basant Hamida wins her 2nd gold medal with 200m sprint at the Mediterranean Games

The Egyptian champion, Basant Hamida, won her second gold medal in the athletics competitions at the Mediterranean Games held in Algeria, Oran.

Hamida won the gold medal in the 200-meter sprint on Sunday setting a new Olympic record for the Mediterranean, after finishing the race in a time of 49.22 seconds.

She also won the gold medal in the 100-meter sprint competitions in the Mediterranean Games, setting a new record with a time of 10.11 seconds, an achievement that happens for the 1st time in the history of Egyptian athletics.

This brings Egypt’s medals tally in the Mediterranean Games to 40, including 11 gold medals, 12 silver medals, and 17 bronze medals.

The 19th edition of the Mediterranean Games began on Saturday, June 25, in Oran, northwest of Algeria, and will continue until Tuesday, with the participation of more than 3,000 athletes from 26 countries.

Egypt’s participation in the tournament includes 177 players – 114 male and 63 female – in 19 sports: weightlifting, athletics, boxing, fencing, karate, shooting, tennis, table tennis, taekwondo, judo, bow and arrow, wrestling, equestrian, sailing, handball, basketball, badminton, and gymnastics.
