Football Focus is to end after 52 years, as announced by BBC Sport. Launched in 1974, the program has been a staple for fans, offering interviews, analysis, and stories leading up to weekend football matches. However, changing viewing habits and a shift toward digital platforms have led to a decline in linear television audiences since 2018.

According to BBC News, the show will run until the end of the season. BBC Sport director Alex Kay-Jelski highlighted the program’s significance in the history of sports broadcasting, noting its role in sharing the narratives of football over generations.

In response to the changing landscape, the BBC will adjust its programming for the upcoming season. Kelly Somers’ The Football Interview will move to the Saturday slot at 12:45 BST on BBC One, while Final Score with Jason Mohammad will start earlier at 15:45 BST. The BBC also plans to enhance its digital content, including exclusive shows on YouTube, to better engage with audiences.

Football Focus originally began as part of Grandstand, evolving into a beloved program with notable hosts like Bob Wilson, Steve Rider, and Gary Lineker. The final host will be Alex Scott, who has presented the show for the past five years and expressed her gratitude for the opportunity, stating it has been an important part of her life. Kay-Jelski affirmed Scott’s continued significance in BBC sports programming, emphasizing her involvement in major upcoming events.
