Beck Hansen, better known as mononymous musical chameleon Beck, is set to embark on his inaugural Australian orchestra tour this May, collaborating with local orchestras for a unique musical experience. According to ABC News, this marks a significant departure for the artist, who has previously focused on rock shows throughout his lengthy career.
The 55-year-old musician will perform with Melbourne’s Philharmonia Australia at the Palais Theatre and the Sydney Symphony Orchestra at the iconic Sydney Opera House. Beck aims to reimagine his extensive catalog, incorporating orchestral arrangements to revisit songs that have been “previously neglected in live shows.”
Beck’s orchestral shows promise fresh renditions of popular tracks such as “Loser,” “Devil’s Haircut,” and “Where It’s At,” along with unexpected covers and deeper cuts from his discography. Notably, the majority of the setlist will draw from his acclaimed albums “Sea Change” and “Morning Phase.”
Reflecting on his decision to collaborate with orchestras, Beck notes that the orchestral format allows for a different emotional depth in his performances. He describes the experience as transformative, comparing it to viewing an IMAX film, where the expansive sound enhances the musical journey. Beck’s orchestral performances will showcase not just his hits but also the symphonic elements present throughout his career, creating a unique blend of genres.
Beck’s Live With Orchestra tour is set to kick off on May 12 and 13, 2026, in Melbourne, following performances in Sydney on May 7, 8, and 9, providing fans with an opportunity to experience his music in a new and captivating way.
