According to ABC News, Queensland Health is contacting almost 900 patients following an audit of colonoscopy procedures at Goondiwindi and Warwick hospitals in southern Queensland. The quality assurance review identified 890 patients whose procedures may not have met the expected standard of care.

The audit raised questions about colonoscopies performed by a private specialist at the two hospitals between 2023 and 2026. Darling Downs Health said some procedures showed gaps in documentation, meaning it could not be certain they met expected standards for colonoscopy care.

Acting chief executive Louise Van Every said there was no evidence that any patients had been harmed. She said the health service was proactively contacting every affected patient so they were aware of the concerns and knew where to seek appropriate follow-up care.

Ms Van Every said 92 per cent of the patients identified in the audit were private patients. The specialist is no longer providing colonoscopy services within Darling Downs Health facilities, and Queensland Health has referred the matter to the Office of the Health Ombudsman.
