According to ABC News, Perth-based manufacturer Bella Modular has told customers it can no longer complete their projects and has vacated its premises. The business built transportable granny flats and home office buildings to order, and said an independent, fully resourced third-party modular builder would take over management and construction.

In a letter sent on Wednesday last week, Bella Modular cited “unforeseen and significant financial difficulties”. It did not name the incoming builder or say what would happen to customer deposits, but told customers they would receive the new company’s details within 14 days. Its former premises in Hopeland, on Perth’s southern fringe, have been vacated.

Customer Peter Elliot said he paid a $90,000 deposit, half the cost of a granny flat ordered in May 2025 for his parents. He had been told about three weeks before receiving the letter that steel for the project was on site and ready for assembly. Mr Elliot said the disability-ready home had been intended for his parents to move into by Christmas 2025.

Another customer, Steve Evans, said he had paid almost $160,000 towards a modular home that had not yet been built, including a $28,000 deposit and a further $130,000 requested four weeks earlier. A Credit Watch report showed Bella Modular owed the Australian Taxation Office $576,614.68 and faced three court actions seeking payments totalling just over $170,000. Bella Modular’s owners were contacted for comment.
