Homes across Canterbury-Bankstown will light up this Eid as Council calls on residents to get involved in its first ever Eid lights competition.
City of Canterbury Bankstown is looking to find the best decorated homes in each of the City’s five wards, with prizes of up to $500 on offer for the most outstanding displays.
A Council spokesperson said over the coming weeks, the community will be celebrating religious holidays and spiritual events such as Ramadan, Easter and Eid.
“It’s an important time for many in our community as they reflect and embrace the significance of this holy period,” the spokesperson said.
“We’re proud of the diverse cultures in our City and the vibrancy that they create.
“To mark this year’s Eid, we’re holding a lights competition, similar to the competition held over the Christmas holiday period.”
The spokesperson encouraged everyone to decorate and showcase their homes to the rest of Sydney.
“It’s not just about the lights, it’s about being creative and engaging.”
Residents decorating their homes to mark the season can enter the competition by submitting a picture of their display to Council’s website by Wednesday 10 April, Noon.
All eligible entries will then be displayed on Council’s website, where the community can vote for their favourite display. Voting will open on Thursday 11 April, 9am, and close on Wednesday 17 April, 9am.
Winners will receive a $500 gift card and runners up will receive a $200 gift card. Winners will be announced on Thursday 18 April via Council’s website and social media.
