According to ABC News, North Melbourne has moved closer to securing Sydney player Nick Blakey during the penultimate day of the 2026 AFL trade period, while Brisbane Lions player Keidean Coleman has requested a trade to Essendon.

ABC News reported that North Melbourne improved its offer to Sydney after little movement on the Blakey deal. The proposed package consists of pick six in this year’s draft, a 2028 first-round selection and potentially a 2027 second-round pick. The report said the agreement appeared close, with the deal possibly able to be completed on Tuesday.

Coleman told the Lions that he wants to join Essendon after canvassing his options over recent weeks, ABC News reported. The clubs had less than 48 hours to reach a deal. The report raised pick 21, with additional value, as one possible component, while questioning whether pick 17 would be required.

More than a dozen deals remained unresolved as the trade period approached deadline day on Wednesday. Western Bulldogs player Laitham Vandermeer was still seeking a move, most likely to Essendon, while the Bulldogs were also looking to build draft points ahead of a potential bid for Khaled El Souki.
