According to Al Jazeera, the US-led Board of Peace said Israeli forces would withdraw beyond Gaza’s Yellow Line only after Hamas’s disarmament is complete. The body made the statement after Director-General Nickolay Mladenov met Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in West Jerusalem on Monday.

The Board of Peace said reports suggesting otherwise were inaccurate. It said Hamas had committed to mediators that decommissioning would cover light weapons, heavy weapons and tunnels. The Yellow Line is the demarcation line behind which Israeli forces continue to base themselves in Gaza.

“The goal is clear and is not in question: the complete decommissioning of weapons in the Strip and the transition away from rule by the gun to civilian governance,” the Board of Peace said in a social media post. Hamas, meanwhile, said the agreement would not be implemented unless Israel carries out its part of the deal.

Two people familiar with the meeting told The Associated Press that Mladenov urged Netanyahu to stop attacks on Gaza. Israel has refused to do so despite an October 2025 ceasefire, Al Jazeera reported. Netanyahu’s office said before the meeting that the public version of the agreement did not reflect Israel’s positions and that its concerns had been conveyed to the United States.

Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich said the agreement was “completely different” from the one approved by Israel’s government and called for an immediate new vote. Egypt, Qatar and Turkiye, which mediated the disarmament deal, condemned Israel’s targeting of civilians and healthcare facilities as a “flagrant violation of international law”. Hamas said Palestinian factions remained committed to completing the ceasefire’s second phase while awaiting an official response from Mladenov and the mediators.
