According to ABC News, 10-year-old Braymond Pyke was airlifted to hospital after riding his motorbike into a rope strung across a dirt bike track outside Cunnamulla in outback Queensland. The incident happened late on Friday as he took what his mother, Bronwyn Wood, said was one final lap before the family headed home.

Ms Wood said she heard her son scream for help and found him bleeding from the throat. She drove him to Cunnamulla hospital, from where he was flown to Roma and then Toowoomba Hospital for treatment. Braymond returned home to Cunnamulla on Monday with severe rope burn, scratches on his neck and internal bruising.

The track is along Old Charleville Road in Cunnamulla, about 790 kilometres west of Brisbane. Police said they were investigating the crash and had patrolled the track for further risks. Braymond’s father, Brendon Pyke, said the rope was electric fence wire designed to hold cattle in and suggested it may have been left by drovers who had recently used the area.

Mr Pyke said the family could not confirm how the wire came to be across the track and did not rule out that somebody may have tied it up intentionally. He said ropes or wires should be marked and removed when no longer needed, and urged families to check where children would be riding.

Local resident Troy Nelson, who began maintaining the track after his sons started riding there, said he and his boys found about 10 similar ropes in the area after Braymond was injured and cut them down. He said another child had been caught on a rope only a couple of weeks earlier, but was not seriously injured and did not report the incident.
