According to ABC News, an 11-year-old boy has died after allegedly being shot in the face at a unit in Norwest, in Sydney’s north-west. NSW Police said the boy died at about 8pm on Thursday, days after the shooting.

Police were called to the unit at about 5pm on Monday and found the child had suffered a gunshot wound to his face and neck. Paramedics treated him before he was taken to hospital in a critical condition.

Five other people were in the unit on Monday and were not injured. Police arrested three 18-year-olds, but released two pending further inquiries. Isaac Bechara, 18, was charged with concealing a serious indictable offence and remains before the courts. He was formally refused bail at a hearing on Tuesday, with the matter adjourned until next month.

A 43-year-old woman was also present, while a fifth person has not been located. Police are continuing to investigate possible links between people in the unit and organised crime. Superintendent Naomi Moore said some individuals inside were well known to NSW Police and that investigators were considering their association with organised crime. Police had not recovered the firearm.

Premier Chris Minns described the incident as an “incredibly distressing situation” and a tragic reminder of the danger posed by guns.
