Brazilian health authorities are investigating two patients for possible Ebola infections as the outbreak in central Africa escalates. According to ABC News, the cases are being closely monitored in Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.

The first suspected case involves a 37-year-old man from the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), where the outbreak has been concentrated. He exhibited symptoms such as fever, meeting the definition of a suspected case of Ebola, prompting health officials to isolate him at a specialized facility. Initial tests, however, did not confirm the presence of the virus.

In Rio de Janeiro, a man from Uganda has also shown viral symptoms, including cough, chills, and diarrhoea. Despite testing positive for malaria, this case remains under investigation as health protocols have been activated in response.

The outbreak in the DRC has led to over 1,000 suspected cases and nearly 250 deaths since it was declared on May 15. The World Health Organization warns that the actual extent of the outbreak may be much broader than reported figures suggest. Despite the investigations in Brazil, officials state that the risk of Ebola spreading to South America is currently very low.
