Arabic version: أعمال بريطانية تؤدي إلى تسجيل قياسي في قاعة مشاهير الروك آند رول
A record six British performers will be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame this year, including iconic bands Oasis, Iron Maiden, and Sade. This announcement comes as part of the 2026 induction ceremony, which will take place on November 14 at the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles. According to BBC News, the other British acts joining the ranks are Joy Division/New Order, Phil Collins, and Billy Idol.
This year’s induction surpasses the previous record of five British acts in a single year, set in 2019 with the induction of Radiohead, The Cure, Def Leppard, Roxy Music, and The Zombies. Notably, there were no British inductees in 2021, highlighting the significance of this year’s honorees.
The list of inductees was revealed during an episode of ABC’s American Idol by Ryan Seacrest and Lionel Richie. The inclusion of Joy Division, known for their somber post-punk music, adds an intriguing contrast to the celebratory context of the talent show.
Oasis, who also hail from Manchester, are being inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame the year after they played their biggest ever US tour. It is doubtful that Liam Gallagher will turn up at the ceremony in Los Angeles this November, having previously declared that he wasn’t interested in receiving an award from “some geriatric in a cowboy hat”. Conversely, Billy Idol has openly welcomed the recognition, viewing it as a chance to thank fans for their support.
This year, the Hall of Fame will also honor non-British acts, including the late soul singer Luther Vandross and the hip hop group Wu-Tang Clan. The voting process for inductees involves over 1,200 industry professionals, including previous inductees, who select from a list of nominees curated by a group of music experts.
