According to BBC News,

Britney Spears has been arrested in California, according to court documents. The singer was arrested by the California Highway Patrol at around 21:30 PT (05:30 GMT) on Wednesday. She was released in the early hours of Thursday morning and is scheduled to appear in Ventura County Superior Court on 4 May.

The specific reason for Spears’ arrest has not been disclosed in the court documents. Following the news of her arrest, it appears that she deleted her Instagram account on Thursday.

Spears is renowned as one of the most successful pop stars in music history, known for hits like “Toxic,” “Everytime,” and “Baby One More Time.” However, she expressed in January 2024 her decision to “never return to the music industry.” Her last musical release was a duet with Elton John in 2022.

From 2008 until 2021, Spears was in a conservatorship that restricted her personal and financial autonomy, overseen by her father. In 2023, she published her memoir, “The Woman in Me,” reflecting on her career and experiences under the conservatorship. Additionally, her ex-husband Kevin Federline released his memoir, “You Thought You Knew,” at the end of 2025.
