According to ABC News, defending NRLW premiers Brisbane have beaten Newcastle 40-16 in an elimination final at Langlands Park, setting up a preliminary final against Gold Coast next weekend. The Broncos led 34-0 at half-time and secured a fourth straight win.

Brisbane scored seven tries to Newcastle’s three, with Romy Teitzel crossing twice. The Broncos made a dream start, scoring after 56 seconds when Knights fullback Lucy Spain dropped a Jesse Southwell bomb and Teitzel collected the ball to score.

Robinson scored five minutes later, while prop Shannon Mato was unstoppable close to the line. Teitzel’s second try was followed by a four-pointer for Tamika Upton. Upton also created a try for centre Georgia Bartlett with a grubber kick before the half-time siren.

Prop Brianna Clark added another Brisbane try after the break. Newcastle improved in the second half, with Mercedez Taulelei-Siala, Shanice Parker and Sidney Taylor scoring for the visitors. Brisbane had injury concern for Bree Spreadborough, who sustained an ankle injury, while lock Lillian Yarrow was put on report for a lifting tackle.

Upton, Southwell and Teitzel produced standout displays against their former club. Upton was given an early mark 20 minutes from full-time, while Southwell directed the attack with his kicking game and Teitzel was dominant on the right edge in the second row.
