According to ABC News, the Brisbane Broncos defeated the Canterbury Bulldogs 34-20 in their final-round NRL contest, giving prop Payne Haas a winning farewell before his move to South Sydney from 2027.

Haas scored the opening try in an influential final appearance for Brisbane. The Broncos’ 34 points matched their highest total of the disappointing 2026 season, equalling the score from their 34-30 win over the Raiders four weeks earlier.

The teams were level at 10-10 at half-time before Brisbane broke the game open after the interval. Sparked by halfback Ben Hunt and hooker Billy Walters, the Broncos scored four tries in 15 minutes to build a 24-point lead. Walters scored after backing up a right-side move, Hunt crossed in his 373rd NRL game, Jordan Riki scored from a Hunt kick, and Josiah Karapani added another try.

Canterbury responded through Viliame Kikau and Lachlan Galvin, but could not get close enough to seriously threaten the Broncos’ lead. The result means Brisbane will finish 14th or 15th in its failed premiership defence.

Hunt said the side had added motivation to send Haas out with a victory. “Payne means a hell of a lot to this club, he really does,” Hunt told ABC Sport. “It’s been a very disappointing year, but to come out here tonight, the boys really carried themselves in a great way and really showed up for Payne. He deserved the win tonight.”
