According to BBC News, Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored and provided an assist as Leeds United beat Newcastle United 4-1 at Elland Road, strengthening the 29-year-old striker’s case for an England recall.

Calvert-Lewin has now scored eight times against Newcastle, the club he had previously been linked with. The free-transfer signing caused the visitors repeated problems before being substituted late on to a standing ovation. He has four goals in 12 England appearances since his senior debut in 2020. Former England defender Jamie Carragher called his performance “almost perfect” and said he was “unplayable”.

The result also underlined Leeds’ recent league form. Only Arsenal, Manchester City, Manchester United and Bournemouth have won more Premier League points in 2026 than Leeds’ 35, while the Whites have lost only once in their past 13 league matches. Newcastle head coach Matthias Jaissle said his side did not match Leeds’ intensity, duel behaviour or physicality after conceding three goals in a 14-minute first-half spell.
