According to The Guardian,

Canada will join the Eurovision Song Contest in 2027, becoming the first new participant since Australia in 2015, organisers have announced. This announcement was made by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and the Canadian public broadcaster CBC on Canada Day, a national holiday.

The contest is open to all members of the EBU, which Canada joined last week. The 2027 Eurovision will be hosted in Bulgaria in May, and CBC will later reveal how Canada’s entry will be selected.

CBC president Marie-Philippe Bouchard expressed enthusiasm, stating that participation “will allow Canadian talent to be showcased on one of the most storied music stages in the world.” Eurovision director Martin Green noted that Canada’s inclusion signifies the contest’s ongoing commitment to embracing a wider international audience.

Historically, Canadians have participated in Eurovision representing other countries, with notable winners like Céline Dion, who won the 1988 contest competing for Switzerland. The announcement comes at a time when Eurovision is expanding, despite facing challenges such as recent boycotts by some participating countries over political issues.

Next year’s contest will take place in Sofia, Bulgaria, following a year that saw 35 countries compete, with Bulgaria’s Dara winning the title. As Eurovision prepares for its future, Canada’s entry is anticipated to add a new dimension to the storied event.
