According to ABC News, a 74-year-old Canadian woman has died after the moped she was riding collided with a car at Horseshoe Bay on Magnetic Island in north Queensland.

Emergency services were called to the area just before 12pm. The woman died at the scene, while the driver of the car was not physically injured.

A Queensland Police Service spokesperson could not confirm whether the woman was visiting the island as a tourist.

Horseshoe Bay resident Simone Wall said multiple bystanders attempted to save the woman. She said residents, tourists and lifeguards worked tirelessly, with CPR started immediately and a defibrillator applied after lifeguards arrived.

The forensic crash unit is investigating the fatal collision. Police have urged anyone with information or dash-cam footage to contact them.
