According to ABC News, Catholic Archdiocese of Canberra and Goulburn Education Limited has told parents that fees at its schools will rise in 2027. The organisation operates 56 schools across the ACT and NSW.

Primary school fees will increase by 6 per cent. Fees at four of the five Catholic secondary schools will rise by 7.5 per cent, while St John Paul II College in Nicholls will increase fees by 6 per cent after rises for some year levels in 2025.

The Catholic schools building levy, introduced in 2025, will also increase for a final scheduled year in 2027, costing families $1,000. At St Clare’s College in Griffith, a Year 12 student’s 2027 fee will be $14,188 excluding the levy, up $991.

Executive director David de Carvalho said the education provider was seeking to keep fees as low as possible while meeting rising costs. He said real decreases in per-student base government funding were increasing pressure on fees.

More than 16,000 students attend Catholic schools in Canberra, according to the 2026 ACT Census of Schools. Mr de Carvalho said families concerned about the increases could speak with their school principal and apply for fee remissions based on their circumstances.
