Dear community,

Did you know that one in two young Australians (12-25) struggles with mental health?

I was horrified to learn this from new research from Headspace.

I was also deeply affected by the tragic death of Charlotte O’Brien, a bright and caring young girl who was a victim of bullying.

That’s why I’m taking action to support young people’s mental health.

And I’m calling on you to join me by taking part in my 24-hour Challenge for Mental Health fundraiser.

Run or walk, solo or as a team, be part of a positive wave as we take on round-the-clock laps of The Crest Athletics Track in Bass Hill, from Thursday 16 April to Friday 17 April.

Every dollar raised will go directly towards Charlotte’s Wish Scholarships.

These scholarships have been developed by Charlotte’s courageous parents, Kelly and Mat, to ensure no child has to suffer as Charlotte did. The program gives young people in Years 6–8 early wellbeing support, helping them build resilience, confidence and stronger connections. It’s practical, preventative and life‑changing.

When we have open conversations around mental health and check in on each other, stigma fades and young people feel safer to seek help. That is exactly what this event about: movement, connection and hope.

Whether you’re a seasoned runner, a casual walker, a parent with a pram or someone who simply wants to show support, there is a place for you on the track.

Let’s honour Charlotte’s story, uplift our young people and show once again that Canterbury‑Bankstown is a community that stands together – every step of the way.
