According to BBC News, England director of cricket Rob Key believes Brydon Carse can play for England again, subject to the outcome of a Cricket Regulator charge, as 39 players were named on updated England contracts.
Carse, 31, was arrested and then de-arrested following an incident outside a Derby nightclub in August. Derbyshire Police took no action over allegations of assault, but the pace bowler has been charged by the Cricket Regulator with breaching England and Wales Cricket Board professional conduct rules. He is available for selection but has taken time away from international cricket and has not been in a squad since the incident.
Carse remains on the two-year deal awarded last year, which runs until autumn 2027. Key said there was a chance for the Durham bowler to return, while stressing that the regulator’s investigation was ongoing. Carse has played 14 Tests and 44 white-ball matches for England. Before the Derby incident, he had not played since the Ashes in January because of a wrist injury.
England awarded full central contracts to 30 players and development contracts to nine. Test captain Joe Root and white-ball captain Harry Brook are among 11 players given two-year deals through to 30 September 2028. Uncapped fast bowler Henry Crocombe also received a two-year contract, joining Jofra Archer, Gus Atkinson, Sonny Baker and Josh Tongue as specialist fast bowlers on multi-year deals.
The updated coaching teams include Richard Dawson, James Foster and Eric Simons with Test head coach Stephen Fleming. Marcus Trescothick remains with the red-ball side. White-ball coach Brendon McCullum retains Sarah Taylor, Jeetan Patel and Tim Southee, while Kevin Pietersen will work with the white-ball teams before next year’s 50-over World Cup in southern Africa.
