Police have released CCTV footage as part of the investigation into the fatal shooting of former boxer Hussein Dehaini in Ascot Vale. According to ABC News, the 33-year-old was shot dead in the early hours of Sunday morning, with authorities believing his killers escaped in a Mercedes sedan.
Emergency services responded to North Street near Mount Alexander Road around 12:15 a.m. after two passersby found Dehaini suffering from a gunshot wound. He was treated at the scene but succumbed to his injuries en route to the hospital.
Detective Inspector Dean Thomas, head of Victoria Police’s homicide squad, indicated that Dehaini had a criminal history, including associations with organized crime groups. He described the shooting as a targeted attack, noting that there was intent to kill or seriously injure Dehaini.
Investigators believe the shooting occurred as Dehaini was walking along Mount Alexander Road when a male offender approached and fired multiple shots. No other individuals were injured during the incident. The shooter reportedly fled in a white Mercedes, which was later seen driving erratically before disappearing from sight.
Police are particularly interested in speaking with a pedestrian who was almost struck by the fleeing vehicle, as he may provide crucial information related to the case. Authorities urge anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers at 1800 333 000 or submit a report online.
