The spotlight is about to shine on the next generation of leaders, creators and changemakers as nominations open for the annual Cumberland & Parramatta Young Champions Awards, an inspiring initiative that honours exceptional young people aged 19 and under across the region.

From go-karting prodigies and dance-floor dynamos to academic trailblazers and community heroes, this year’s nominees are already dazzling.

Among them is 16-year-old Angelina Sok, a powerful sustainability advocate; 13-year-old Sienna Kong, a dance competition standout and cello virtuoso; and Cerdon College’s Faith Sassine, who has been recognised for her passion in uplifting younger students.

“These are the stories that deserve to be told. These are the moments that define our future,” says Brian Laul, founder of the Young Champions Awards, Chairperson of Rainbow Crossing Inc., and Vice President of the Greater Cumberland Chamber of Commerce.

“We have so many talented and passionate under-19s creating positive change. Sometimes, just a pat on the back – a little appreciation – can give them the determination to go even further.”

The Young Champions Awards is a unique celebration across the Cumberland and Parramatta LGAs, spanning over 20 categories from individual excellence to group achievements and special recognition.

100 finalists will be honoured at a Gala Awards High Tea on Sunday 27 July at Merrylands RSL Club, complete with entertainment, food, and heartfelt community celebration.

“It’s my hope that these awards will inspire young people of all backgrounds to rise above their difficulties and pursue a journey of excellence,” Mr Laul added.

Each finalist will receive a medal, certificate, and access to a free Leadership Workshop, equipping them with real-world leadership skills to build on their achievements. The workshop will be conducted by
