The spotlight is about to shine on the next generation of leaders, creators and change-makers as nominations are open for the annual Greater Western Sydney Young Champions Awards, an inspiring initiative that honours exceptional young people aged 19 and under across the Liverpool, Fairfield and Cabramatta LGAs.
From track and field prodigies and dance-floor dynamos to academic trailblazers and community heroes, this year’s nominees are already dazzling.
Among them is 17-year-old Tea Mucenski, a standout member of the Australian School Girls soccer team; 18-year-old Patrick Rassmussen, a stellar performer who hasn’t let Fragile X Syndrome stand in his way; and Liverpool Girls High School’s Anjani Prakash, who has been recognised for her passionate community service.

“These are the stories that deserve to be told. These are the moments that define our future,” says Brian Laul, founder of the Young Champions Awards, Chairperson of Rainbow Crossing Inc., and Campbelltown’s Citizen of the Year.
“We have so many talented and passionate under-19s creating positive change. Sometimes, just a pat on the back, a little appreciation, can give them the determination to go even further.”
The Young Champions Awards is a unique celebration across the Liverpool, Fairfield and Cabramatta LGAs, spanning over 20 categories from individual excellence to group achievements and special recognition.
100 finalists will be honoured at a Gala Awards Evening on Sunday 27 October at The Grand Ballroom, Liverpool Catholic Club, complete with entertainment, food, and heartfelt community celebration.

“It’s my hope that these awards will inspire young people of all backgrounds to rise above their difficulties and pursue a journey of excellence,” Mr Laul added.
Each finalist will receive a medal, certificate, and access to a free Leadership Workshop, equipping them with real-world leadership skills to build on their achievements. The workshop will be conducted by Youth Amplified co-founders Brian Laul and Ronna Guzman.
Nominations for the Greater Western Sydney Young Champions Awards have been extended and now close on Friday 17 October, so it still isn’t too late for you to nominate your own child or any young person you know in our community.
