On Thursday, 23 January 2025, the Australia Day Reception hosted by 2MFM Radio brought together community leaders, friends, and representatives to celebrate the rich cultural diversity and shared values that define Australia. Held at Salamah College on Hector Street in Chester Hill, the event ran from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM, fostering an atmosphere of unity, gratitude, and reflection.

The reception featured a keynote speech by Dr. Sheikh Ibrahim Al Shafie, representing Dar Ul Fatwah, whose eloquent address resonated deeply with attendees. Beginning with the greeting “Assalamu ‘alaykom,” Dr. Sheikh Ibrahim highlighted the significance of Australia Day as a time to reflect on the nation’s journey, its diverse heritage, and the values that bind its people. Drawing inspiration from the Quranic verse Al-Hujurat 13, he emphasised the importance of recognising and celebrating the unity in diversity that makes Australia a nation of resilience and strength.

A Celebration of Shared Values
The event underscored the spirit of Australia Day—not merely as a date on the calendar but as a day to celebrate what unites the nation. Dr. Sheikh Ibrahim’s speech encapsulated this sentiment, acknowledging the contributions of First Nations peoples, settlers, immigrants, and refugees who have shaped Australia into the vibrant society it is today.

Attendees were reminded of the collective responsibility to build an inclusive, fair, and sustainable nation. Dr. Sheikh Ibrahim called on individuals to reflect the values of their faith and culture through acts of charity, volunteering, and neighbourly kindness. His message of embracing diversity and fostering harmony left a lasting impression on all present.

The event also featured other speeches by a variety of dignitaries including Clr. Bilal El Hayek, Mayor of Canterbury Bankstown, The Hon. Mark Speakman – Leader of the Opposition, and many others.

Recognising Contributions to Community
The reception also provided an opportunity to celebrate the unsung heroes of society—teachers, healthcare workers, emergency responders, and countless volunteers—who quietly contribute to the nation’s progress. The event was a testament to the strength of the Australian community and its commitment to inclusivity.

Looking Ahead
As the evening concluded, attendees left inspired to take active roles in strengthening the fabric of Australian society. The event highlighted the importance of unity and encouraged everyone to work towards building a brighter and more harmonious future.

The Australia Day Reception at 2MFM Radio was not just an event but a meaningful reminder of the values that unite Australians. The station once again demonstrated its role as a vital voice in fostering understanding and togetherness within the community.
