According to BBC News, Celtic have signed Parma midfielder Oliver Sorensen on a season-long loan while selling Reo Hatate to Burnley and Johnny Kenny to Preston North End. Celtic hold an option to buy the 24-year-old Sorensen, who joined the Italian club in August 2025 after five years with Midtjylland in Denmark.
Japan midfielder Hatate, 28, has signed a three-year contract with Burnley. He leaves Celtic having scored 33 goals in 191 appearances since joining from Kawasaki Frontale in January 2022. Striker Kenny, 23, has agreed a four-year deal with Championship side Preston after spending the end of last season on loan at Bolton Wanderers.
Sorensen’s arrival helps address the midfield departures of Arne Engels, who was sold to West Ham United, and Hatate. Celtic have now brought in five first-team players during the transfer window. Assistant manager Shaun Maloney said the club still had work to do in key positions and hoped to recruit a left-back to compete with Scotland international Kieran Tierney.
Maloney said Celtic needed a different midfield profile, citing the need for “extra speed” and “extra power”, while praising the technical quality already in the squad. He also said any striker signing would either happen within the next 24 or 48 hours or the club would continue with its current options. The Scottish transfer deadline is Thursday at 17:00 BST, while Europa League squads must be registered by Wednesday at 23:59.
