Two men have been charged after clashes erupted between police and protesters in Southampton, related to the fatal stabbing of 18-year-old Henry Nowak. The protests occurred near the residence of Nowak’s killer, Vickrum Digwa, resulting in injuries to 11 officers and one police dog.

According to BBC News, Matt Styler, 50, of no fixed abode from Gosport, has been charged with assault by beating of an emergency worker, while Daniel Frost, 44, of Northam Road, Southampton, has been charged with violent disorder and possession of an offensive weapon. Both individuals are scheduled to appear at Southampton Magistrates’ Court.

The unrest follows Digwa’s sentencing to life in prison with a minimum term of 21 years for the stabbing. The protests intensified due to public outrage over the police’s actions during the incident, where Nowak was arrested while he was critically injured. Bodycam footage later revealed that Nowak, in handcuffs, was attempting to inform officers that he had been stabbed.

The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) has initiated an investigation into the police’s handling of the situation, focusing on the decision to detain Nowak instead of Digwa, who initially misled authorities about the nature of the incident.
