Chelsea’s recent match against Brighton was preceded by a controversial leak of team news, reportedly originating from the barber of defender Marc Cucurella. As kick-off approached on Tuesday, social media screenshots surfaced claiming that midfielder Cole Palmer and striker Joao Pedro would not be in the line-up due to injuries.

According to BBC News, the post, which featured an image of Cucurella’s distinctive curly hair, stated, “[Cole] Palmer and Joao Pedro both injured tonight. There’s your exclusive.” There was no public knowledge of Palmer’s hamstring injury prior to the leak.

Joao Pedro had undergone a fitness test earlier in the day, but the leak raised questions about team secrecy. Chelsea head coach Liam Rosenior is known for his strategic approach to team selection, often holding pre-match news conferences two days in advance to keep opponents guessing.

This incident marks the third time team news has allegedly been leaked since Rosenior’s appointment in early January, with previous leaks occurring during Chelsea’s Champions League matches against Paris St-Germain. Rosenior has stated that such leaks have been addressed and were not intended to undermine him or the team.

Currently, Chelsea sits in seventh place in the Premier League with four matches remaining. Their next challenge will be the FA Cup semi-final against Leeds at Wembley Stadium on Sunday.
