According to ABC News, a 39-year-old Chinese national has been charged after allegedly attempting to bribe a Commonwealth public official with $20,000 in cash concealed in a bag of tea. The alleged incident took place during a business meeting in Camp Hill, Brisbane, on July 9.

Police alleged the man handed a woman the bag of tea during the meeting. The bag was later found to contain $20,000 in cash. Authorities alleged the attempted bribery was for business gain.

The woman reported the incident, prompting a joint operation involving Queensland Police, the Australian Federal Police and the National Anti-Corruption Commission. The man was apprehended on July 24 while attempting to board a flight at Sydney International Airport.

He was extradited back to Queensland on Saturday and appeared before the Brisbane Magistrates Court on Monday. He has been charged with one count of gifting or offering a secret commission to an agent and was refused bail.
