Christina Applegate has revealed that she is now largely confined to her bed due to multiple sclerosis (MS), a condition she was diagnosed with in 2021. In an interview with People magazine, the 54-year-old actor discussed the challenges she faces, revealing that she spends a lot of her days in bed due to the pain that comes with movement.

According to The Guardian, despite her condition, Applegate continues to take her 15-year-old daughter, Sadie, to school, calling it her “favourite thing to do.” She explained that these moments are precious as they provide the only time they have together alone.

MS is an autoimmune disease that occurs when the immune system begins to attack the sheath that protects nerve fibres, making it difficult for the brain to communicate with the rest of the body. It predominantly affects women and can lead to a reduced life expectancy by five to ten years, on average. Applegate’s memoir, titled *You With the Sad Eyes*, reflects on her life experiences, including her childhood and her mother’s struggles with addiction.

Applegate has previously noted the emotional impact her illness has on her daughter, acknowledging that Sadie often observes her difficulties. She emphasized her desire to be honest about her experiences, stating, “My life isn’t wrapped up with a bow.” Applegate, who has also battled breast cancer, is now focusing on voice acting and co-hosting a podcast about MS.
