Christine Baranski is set to make her West End debut in a production of Noel Coward’s comedy Hay Fever this fall. The actress, known for her roles in Mamma Mia! and The Good Wife, expressed her excitement about joining the cast alongside Richard E Grant. “It feels extraordinary to be coming to the West End at this stage of my career,” Baranski said, adding that performing in the iconic venue has been on her bucket list for years. According to BBC News, the show will run for 12 weeks at the Wyndham’s Theatre in London from September 22.

Baranski, 73, emphasized her passion for theater, having longed to return to her roots after a successful career in television and film. She noted that her filming schedule had previously prevented her from taking on stage roles. “If ever there was a play for me to do, it would be this one,” she remarked, as she prepares to embody the character while honing her English accent.

Richard E Grant, who will co-star with Baranski, expressed his delight at returning to the West End after a two-decade gap. He described the experience as a thrilling opportunity and praised Baranski as “sensational.” Grant humorously acknowledged the play’s long history, stating, “Hay Fever premiered in the West End 101 years ago (but who’s counting?).”

The production will be directed by Emily Burns and is produced by Wessex Grove and Gavin Kalin Productions. Baranski has previously appeared in several of Coward’s works, reflecting her affection for his writing style. “I just love the quicksilver delivery and suave flamboyance of Coward,” she stated, highlighting the enduring appeal of classical plays in the theater scene.
