Chuck Norris, renowned martial arts champion and action film star, has died at the age of 86. According to The Guardian, Norris emerged as a significant figure in 1980s cinema, often sharing the spotlight with other action legends like Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone.

Norris first gained recognition for his role alongside Bruce Lee in The Way of the Dragon (1972), where their choreographed fight sequences showcased their martial arts prowess. A six-time world middleweight karate champion who retired undefeated in 1974, Norris transitioned from martial arts to acting, eventually starring in iconic films such as Missing in Action (1984) and Invasion USA (1985).

His films often conveyed a conservative philosophy, with Norris stating, “I don’t initiate violence, I retaliate.” He portrayed wholesome heroes who fought against societal issues, presenting himself as a counter to the antiheroes of the previous decades. His role in Walker, Texas Ranger, which ran for nine seasons from 1993, solidified his status as a family-friendly action star.

Despite his fame, Norris remained humble and often reflected on the nature of true strength. He was known for his ironic internet meme status, which humorously exaggerated his toughness. Norris’s legacy includes not only his film career but also his controversial political views, which drew attention in later years. He is survived by his second wife, Gena O’Kelley, their twin daughters, Dakota and Danilee, and his sons, Mike and Eric, from his previous marriage to Dianne Kay Holecheck, which ended in divorce, and by another daughter, Dina, from a relationship during that marriage.
